Your little one is turning one month old! So exciting.

First things first – he still can't tell day from night, so there's no use trying to build any kind of routine just yet. Rather follow his tired cues and settle him when he needs it.

Have you heard of the “fourth trimester”? Think of him as a fetus who just happens to be earthside now. He needs you – your touch, your smell, your voice – so it makes complete sense that he doesn't want to be put down. Don't stress, he's not going to “get used to” being held. That's not how it works.

What can you expect?

The developmental leaps at around 5 weeks, then again at 8 weeks. Your baby will probably want even more cuddles and carrying, or might suddenly battle to settle the way he used to.

Tummy troubles and gas are probably still doing the rounds too. Keep up the skin-to-skin, and remember – this phase doesn't last forever.

And Mom – how are you doing? How are you feeling after this first month?
